Dear Affiliate President, Welcome to our Affiliate President Resource Site. The NAMI Texas Board of Directors has created this webpage not only to help you in your work as the leader of your local affiliate but also as a resource to develop and strengthen your affiliate. On this website, you will find the following resources that will be beneficial to you throughout your term as your affiliate's president:
Being an Affiliate President includes many responsibilities. Please note that the materials listed above provide clear descriptions of your role, as well as the role of other members of your executive committee; your vice president, your treasurer and your secretary. You will also find a clear description of the role of your Board of Directors. As part of three-tiered organization, NAMI Texas has an important role. The state office is here to support our local affiliates. It is through our local affiliates that we best support our members through education, support, outreach and advocacy. NAMI Texas does this by bringing NAMI National educational programs to Texas, by developing educational programs to better meet the needs of consumers and families, and by providing training to teachers and trainers to support NAMI educational programs. We also believe that a key function of our state office is to spread the word about NAMI. Our local affiliates represent an army of volunteers that make a huge difference every day in our communities. NAMI actively engages in outreach activities that spread the word about who we are and what we do. In addition, we advocate for individuals with mental illness and support grassroots advocacy by our local affiliates by offering training and resources to increase our effectiveness. In closing, let us say how much we appreciate who you are and what you do. We look forward to being of service to you. We will continue to add resources to this website as we identify new resources, especially as the Standards of Excellence are rolled out, starting in January, 2012. If you have any questions, or we can be of any help, please don't hesitate to contact us. Andrea Hazlitt, NAMI Texas Board PresidentPatti Haynes, Interim Executive Director |
