The Wellness Group: A NAMI-C.A.R.E. Support Group


The Wellness Group, which is based on the NAMI-C.A.R.E. Support Group Model, is a peer-based, mutual support group program for individuals facing the challenges of recovering from any serious mental illness. The Wellness Group focuses on allowing all participants to share their experiences and learn from each other in a safe and confidential environment.

Facts About The Wellness Group

Target audience: Mental health consumers who are working towards being integrated back into the community also those in the community who feel the need for some support. Also available to those outside of the target population

Facilitator: High-functioning consumer(s) backed by NAMI Texas staff or loved ones who provide resources and monitor the sessions.

Language: Written materials currently available in English only

Class size: 12 - 15

Time frame: On going weekly sessions (two hours in duration)

Content: The group suggests topics for discussion at prior sessions. Topics have to be approved by staff or loved one (family member). Also includes current problems members of the group are experiencing.
